In the footsteps of the kings of France

Kings of France - visit Paris

Vacations in Paris are royal!

Your Parisian hotel in the 10th arrondissement suggests a “Royal Paris” itinerary, for an exploration of the capital rich in history.
The kings of France have shaped the capital, which abounds in palaces, residences, statues... Real architectural treasures that the Provinces Opéra invites you to discover.

Start your visit right next door to your hotel in the 10th arrondissement with the Porte Saint-Denis, at the junction of the Grands Boulevards, Rue Saint-Denis and Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis. It was built in 1672 to the glory of Louis XIV by architect François Blondel.

Then it's on to the Louvre, a must-see during your Paris vacation! The architecture has evolved over the centuries and the kings who have lived there (François I, Charles IX, Henri IV...) until Louis XIV chose Versailles in 1678 as the center of power. Nearby, don't miss:

  • The Tuileries Gardens,
  • The Palais Royal built by Richelieu, which became the heart of political life during the Regency (1715 to 1723),
  • The Comédie Française, which brought together the capital's only two troupes by royal decree of Louis XIV in 1680,
  • Place des Victoires, inaugurated in 1686, dedicated to the victories of the Sun King.

From Ile de la Cité to Versailles

On the left bank, the Provinces Opéra team recommends a visit to the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Sun King's main garden since 1635, and the Palais de la Cité on the eponymous island, the capital's oldest royal residence.

And above all, spend half a day or a full day exploring Versailles, where Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI lived until 1789.

The kiosk at your hotel in the 10th arrondissement will help you organize your outing and bookings. There's so much to see at the Château de Versailles: the Hall of Mirrors, the King's apartments, the gardens, Marie-Antoinette's estate...

Place de la bastille paris

How about extending your Paris vacation?

If you can, take the time to make a detour to Place de la Bastille, to admire the discreet remains of the prison: two commemorative plaques (one at the corner of Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue Jacques-Cœur; the other at no. 3 Place de la Bastille). Or the remains of the Bastille foundation in the small Henri Galli square.

Finally, to the north of Paris, the Basilica of Saint-Denis is home to the necropolis of the kings of France (from Dagobert I to Louis XVIII). It was also within these walls that the coronations of the queens took place...
