Stay in a historic bustling district of Paris

Plunge into the beating heart of legendary Paris, the pearl of the 19th century and a truly historical setting. From the peace and quiet of a hotel near the Grands Boulevards, set out to explore the grandeur of the Opéra, the legendary department stores and the famous restaurants – all part of a marvellous world that’s not to be missed.

The Opéra district in Paris is a living history book

In the 18th century, the reign of Louis XIV marked the beginning of the urban redevelopment in the area: the first boulevards were laid, the old ramparts were replaced by a large planted promenade, and the marshlands were covered by the Chaussée d’Antin. The bourgeois Parisian elite flocked to this new district with its new urban cachet.

Typical of the Second Empire public works that transformed the city, the district was adorned with the Opéra Garnier, an architectural marvel built under Napoléon III that combined Baroque and Renaissance styles, with a ceiling painted by Chagall in 1964. The boards were trodden by some of the greats, including Marie Taglioni and Albert Aveline, and the Opera’s reputation shot to prominence.

The nobility of the great Haussmanian boulevards and the spirit of the roaring 20s ultimately gave the district the look it still boasts today. With their new luxury stores nearby, the Belle-Epoque theatres and cafés – frequented by the likes of Zola, Flaubert and Cézanne – became hymns to the pleasures of Paris life. And to this day, the Opéra district is a tourist and cultural highlight and a mecca for shoppers and nightlife lovers alike.
